My dream job was being an astronaut. I got interested in flying machines, like spaceships and aeroplanes. So I ended up studying aerospace engineering at university.

I always wanted to be a Fighter Pilot in the RAF. That is how I originally got into Engineering, the obsession with how things work. As I explored it, electrical engineering really caught my imagination and somehow I ended up where I am now.

When I was really little I didn’t have a dream job as such, more of a life aspiration. I had decided that I would run a small holding somewhere in the UK that was much a kin to Noah’s Arc having 2 of every possible animal. The farm would have had a cottage covered in flowers, I would have driven a green mini-van called Sweet-Pea and I would have had a tractor called Dave – as this is a reliable name.

I did manage to live some of this dream when I was studying to become an engineer which was really great. And I now know that having 2 of each animal potentially would have become unmanageable very quickly 🙂

When I was at school I wanted to be a pilot in the RAF. I was in the Air Cadets from age 13 – 17, where I learnt to fly an aeroplane solo (that’s with no one else inside just me, which was scary!) and where I became really interested in the RAF as a career. Unfortunately I then found out that I was too short to become a pilot : ( and so had to rethink my options, which is when I found out about Engineering from my college tutor.
