As part of my job I get to put solar panels in really stressful environments and situations in order to make sure that they can handle the odd bit of extreme weather or accidentally being driven into by a car. Pretty much everything in the built environment is governed by standards and regulations, and to prove that products are good enough we test them to these standards. For example did you know that there is a British Standard test finger? It is actually a model of a human finger that we use to see whether or not anyone can accidentally (or deliberately) touch anything within the equipment that could give them an electric shock.
