Sometimes. As with most people I worked hard in the subjects I enjoyed and I pretty much use all the skills I learnt in school throughout my daily life and sometimes at work too. With the exception of Lacrosse – I have yet to find out where to fit this in.

Most of the time, yes. I did work hard at all of the science subjects, and even the ones that I didn’t think were going to be that useful (like Calculus) ended up being really useful.
For example, when I’m trying to analyse the heat being transferred through to a spinning blade in a jet engine (to see how hot it would get and how much I need to cool it so that it doesn’t melt), I use the maths, physics and chemistry knowledge I learned at school and in university.

At school I worked hard in the subjects I enjoyed like science, maths and also geography. I also tried to work hard in the subjects I didn’t enjoy as much like English, as I knew that almost all jobs required at least a grade C at GCSE.

I think that the skills I most carried over from school to work are all related to maths. Sometimes it is difficult to think how some of the things you learn in maths will ever be of use to you in real life, but trust me in engineering you use a lot of them all the time! I still have my mathematical calculator from when I was at school and it is out on my desk almost every day.
